As humans, we all know that there is no free meal. In fact, nothing is free in life. But have you ever tried to tell your dog? It's likely that your dog can get what he wants, when he wants it, and he knows it. Nothing in life is free (NILIF) is part of the dog training and behavioral change of the game.
Dogs are beasts of burden. Every animal in the pack has its place in the hierarchy. At the top of course is the pack leader or the alpha. You should be, man. But often you are not. Are you going to feed your dog when he complains when it's time for dinner? If your dog jumps on you to get your attention, are you squatting and caressing your dog? If you do, your dog will train you. If the dog learns that certain actions (crying or jumping) lead to certain behaviors (feeding or attention), your dog is under control. In the hierarchy of the pack, your dog is now above you.
Fortunately, your dog can unlearn this and you can confirm his mastery. This does not mean that you have to yell, blame or use force, but you also need to rethink the way you do things and change the habits your dog that strengthen your dog's superiority.
Nothing in life is free, your dog has to work to get the desired items (food, care, etc.). When you feed your dog, feel it before you leave its feeding bowl. If you move away from it, remove the bowl until you feed it next time. Do not feed your dogs for free, but twice a day. If you let them sit before eating, you have control over the food, not about it.
If your dog jumps on you to get your attention, ignore your dog. When you pet or yell at her, reward her for the jump by paying attention to what she is looking for. Instead, touch it when it's good and do not ask for attention.
Make a list of ways in which your dog takes control of a situation, and how to change one's behavior your dog so that he is always responsible. It can get worse before you feel better, but your dog will eventually learn to respect it and both will be happier.
